Why recycling plastics? Here are some facts for you.
• The production of recycled plastic requires 2/3 less of sulphur dioxide, 50% less of nitrous oxide, and almost 90% less water usage
• 7.4 cubic yards of landfill space and/or 3.8 barrels of petroleum oil can be conserved by recycling 1 ton of plastic bottles
• Plastics require 100 to 400 years to break down in a landfill
• Producing new plastic from recycled material uses only two-thirds of the energy required to manufacture it from raw material (1,3)
• Recycling 1 ton of plastic can save 1-2 thousand gallons of CO2 gas
• Recycling plastic preserved twice as much energy as burning it in an incinerator
• A great number of families discard around 40kg of plastic yearly, and which could be recycled
• 1 recycled plastic bottle would save enough energy to power a 60-watt light bulb for 3 hours
• Recycling 1 ton of plastic bottles saves 1.5 tons of CO2 (v.s. landfill or incineration) • The total amount of recycling conserved the energy
equivalent of 10.7 billion gallons of gasoline and approximately stopped the carbon dioxide releasing from 35 million cars
